It was reported at the meeting of the City Council last night that the chief sanitary inspector, Mr E. J. King, would retire on'May 2. Major J N. Irwin, district commandant of the W.A.A.C. for the Southern "Military District, arrived in Dunedin yesterday on a visit to the local fortress area. , Mr J. R. Luff was re-elected chairman of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association Footwear Group at a meeting of the executive yesterday.. Mr A. W. Lilly was a passenger yesterday for Christchurch, where, in collaboration with his brother, Mr Arthur Lilly, he will give an organ recital in St. Paul's Church, Mr R. H. Miles, chairman of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimrqing Association, who has been visiting Dunedin, will leave this morning on his return ‘to Christchurch. Passengers who arrived from the north by the airliner yesterday were: Mesdames W. Barber and L. B. Rogers from Auckland, Messrs L. C. Hazlett, A. G.
