STUTTGART BOMBED
NAZI INDUSTRIAL CENTRE HEAVY R.A.F. ATTACKS (Rec. 1.30 a.m.) LONDON, Mar. 12. The industrial and transport centre of Stuttgart, in Wurtemburg, was the target of Bomber Command last night. The city has a population of 500,000, and most of the inhabitants are employed in precision engineering. The works include the great Boesche factories, which are engaged on the production of parts for internal combustion engines. Eleven of the bombers failed to return from the raid, which is officially described as a “ heavy attack.” Eight German cities have been bombed so far this month, including Berlin, Hamburg, Essen, Nuremberg, and Munich. The Berlin radio says the R.A.F. last night continued its terror raids against German cities. High explosives and incendiaries were dropped in the Stuttgart district, causing civilian casualties and damage to residential dist'icts. Hospitals, churches, and cultural places were hit. A number of the raiders were shot dowm.
The Luftwaffe, the radio adds, last night raided the Newcastle district, causing large fires and extensive damage.
