JOHN McGLASHAN COLLEGE

ANNUAL MEETING OF BOARD The annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the John McGlashan College was held on Thursday, when there were present Messrs T. C. Ross (in the chair), Jas. Begg, A. C. Cameron, J. D. Fletcher, D. Tannock, J. McGeorge, Dr J. R Elder, the Rev. J. J. Cairney, the Rev. A C W. Standage, and the acting-head-master, Mr T. S. Holme. The annual accounts and balance sheet were presented and adopted. Mr Ross was re-elected chairman, and Mr Begg, Vicechairman. The following members, retiring by rotation, were re-elected—Dr J R Elder, Major R. D. B. Paterson, Messrs J. R. Benson, C. G. Gray, T. Somerville, and T. C. Ross. Mr D. Leslie was appointed honorary auditor. The meeting expressed its gratitude for the work done during the year by the cha rman and the conveners of the committees. . The monthly meeting followed. The acting-headmaster reported that the roll showed a small Increase, especially among the younger boys, in the boarding house. To assist with these. Mrs Dawson had been appointed sub-matron. The secondary inspectors have commented very favourably on the high standard of teaching. 'A favourable report had also been received from the primary department inspectors. The Cadet Company had been in barracks, and the officer in charge had been satisfied with the high standard reached with the shooting. The annual cricket match with St. Andrew’s College had been postponed on account of the outbreak of infantile paralysis in Christchurch, but it was hoped to play a fixture with Waimate High School shortly. A unit of the Air Training Corps had been started at the college. . , „ _ Messrs A. R. Harris and J. R. Benson were granted leave of absence while on military duties. It was agreed that messages should be sent to masters and board members serving overseas.
