PRISON TERM IMPOSED

William Young was convicted and sentenced to a month's imprisonment by Messrs James McDiarmld and H. C. Jeffery, J.P.’s, at the Police Court yesterday morning, on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person, having no lawful means of support. Young pleaded guilty, and Detective Sergeant G. Taylor said that he had been found in a cow shed at Weston, and had been given a meal. He said he was walking from Christchurch to Dunedin to endeavour to obtain work. Detective Sergeant Taylor handed in a list of previous convictions. Passing sentence, the justices said they regretted to see an able-bodied man aged 26 years knocking about the country and not doing useful work. They recommended that the accused be medically examined to ascertain his mental condition.
