TAX ON WAGES
AUSTRALIAN MEASURE (Rec. 7 p.m.) CANBERRA, Jan. 26. The new Federal wages tax, in addition to the existing income tax. will be imposed on incomes from £lO4 a year. The first deductions of the new tax will be made from April 1. The •xtra taxation will start at 6d in the £l, and will increase to a maximum of Is 6d in the £l. The revenue, which is expected to amount to £40,000,000- a year, will eventually be .used mainly for new social services, but temporarily it will be used to assist to finance the war.
