ABOUT TOWN Paper Collection.—A waste paper and rubber collection will. be held in the area west of Ure street (both sides) and south of Itchen street and Isis street to the town boundary on Saturday. All residents are asked to leave contributions at their gates by 1.30 p.m. Warden’s Court.—An application was made yesterday morning before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., sitting as, warden, by Victor Ivan Fenning (Mr S. I. Fitch) for a renewal of his water-race licence at Sheepwash Creek, Maerewhenua.—No objection' was lodged to the application, and. a renewal was granted for 21 years. Blankets for Returned Soldiers.—Mr A. C. Piper (secretary of the Oamaru R.S.A.) has received advice from the Sub-con-troller of Textiles, Wellington, that the first pair of blankets which he has requisitioned for on behalf of a newly-married discharged returned soldier of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. is being made available through the Oamaru retailer nominated by the soldier. Returned servicemen contemplating marriage and seting up homes should make application to the secretary, who will forward their applications to the subcontroller.

Swimming Race.—On Tuesday evening a 100 Yards Medley Race was held by the Oamaru Amateur Swimming Club at the baths, and resulted as follows:—Miss L. Meldrum 1, E. Dobson and R. McCone (equal) 2. Time, 30sec. There were five competitors.
