ARMED FORCES BOARD
APPEALS AGAINST SERVICE The No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board continued its sittings yesterday and dealt with a number of appeals for exemption or release from military service. The chairman (Mr D. C. Cameron) presided, the associate members being Messrs J. C H. Somerville and W. R. Clarke. The following appeals were adjourned sine die: Otago Co-operative Dairy Company, for N. Craig, a butter-maker, S. Brain, a cream grader, J. A. Johnston, a factory manager, and F. Craik, a milk roundsman; C. McK. Marshall, a farmer; W. J. Richards, for W. V. Richards, a farm worker; R. G. Habershon, a farmer; A. G. Seaton, a dairyman; D. McKenzie, a dairy farmer; R. A. Fraser, a dairy farmer; J. L. McAra, a dairy farmer; S. Butler, a dairy farmer; L. J. Gamble, a dairy farmer. The following appeals were dismissed, the reservists not to be called up until the dates mentioned: Maungatua Dairy Company, for L. Young, a cheesemaker, February 28; H. B. Flett, sen., for H. B. Flett, a farm hand, March 31. In .an appeal by Mrs Z. M. Wilson, it was decided to recommend the retention in New Zealand of P. J. Wilson, a labourer. An appeal by W. A. Morrison, a manufacturing jeweller, against service in the Home Guard, was allowed. An appeal by the Taieri and Peninsula Milk Company for E. Robertshaw, a milk roundsman, was adjourned until June 10. Watersiders’ Appeals Appeals bv the Waterfront Controller foi J. S. Beil, A. J. Cocks. W. Davidson, W. Elder. A. Rae, H. E. Rogers. C. M. Holland, H. J. Kissed, T. B. Moore, W. E. Carrington, and A. R. Poiteous, waterside workers, were adjourned sine die. It was decided to recommend release from camp in appeals by the Controller for D. A. Craig, W. Bloomfield, A. C. Griffiths, J. Hutchison, O. Owens. T. J. B. Tayor, J. Donaldson, E. J. Clack, D. W. Thompson, and J. C. Chaney. Appeals by the controller for the following waterside workers were dismissed: R. C. Bleach, A. S. Wade, N. W. Mcßae, A. C. Smith. J. P. Flaherty, T. Cullinane, W. E. Jacalone, J. A. Nash, and J. H. Ives. An appeal for I. F. Miines, a pay clerk, by the Waterfront Controller, was dismissed, the reservist, provided he is classed grade 11, not to be called up before March 31. Th? reservist lodged an objection to the appeal.
