A.I.F. LUNCHEON

MESSAGE FROM MR CURTIN (P.A.) ■ WELLINGTON, Jan. 26. The 155th anniversary of the founding of - the first British settlement in Australia was commemorated to-day at a special luncheon arranged by the Wellington branch of the A.I.F. Association, at which the Prime Minister (Mr P.» Fraser) and Mrs Fraser were the guests of honour. The following message was received from the Australian Prime Minister (Mr J. Curtin):—“l wish to convey to all members of the A.I.F. Association in New Zealand the most cordial good wishes from their fellow Australians. The day we celebrate is truly a day of great significance because the future celebration of it depends on our ability to hold off the aggressor. The tradition which your members established in the first A.I.F. in giving to the world along with their New Zealand fighting comrades the word ‘Anzac' is undying. Every good wish to you from the Government and people of Australia.”

An address was given by Dr E. N. Merrington (formerly master of Knox. College. Dunedin), who was attached to the Australian Light Horse Brigade, and wis senior chaplain at Gallipoli.
