NEWS TRANSMISSION
IMPROVEMENT HOPED FOR CANBERRA, Dec. 16. At the opening of the Empire Telegraph Conference the Prime Minister, Mr J. Curtin, said he hoped some solution would be found for the grave press communication difficulties. There had been many serious delays in news transmissions. Press traffic over the Empire system, which in 1918 was approximately 25,000,000 words, in 1942 had already reached the total of 92.000,000 words. Sir Campbell Stuart, chairman of the Imperial Communications Advisory Committee, who was chairman of the conference, replied that he hoped for the alleviation of this, as well as of other communication problems. New Zealand was represented at the conference by the Director-general of Posts and Telegraphs, Mr J. S. Young.
