School Sports.-—The annual sports meeting of the West Otago School Sports’ Association was held at Tapanui on Saturday in fine weather. There were excellent entries from eight district schools, and competition was keen. The meeting was well attended, and much credit Is due to the officials for their careful organisation of the sports. In the Long Jump, for 14-year-old boys. J. Bottlik (17ft Sin) and L. Somerville (16ft 2in) beat the previous record of 15ft lin, made in 1933. In the Hop, Step, and Jump event the record of 32ft 2in established in 1940 was excelled by the three place-getters. J. Bottlik making the splendid effort of 33ft 9in, or Ift 7in better than the previous record. The record for the Boys’ Long Jump (12 years), established in 1933, was beaten by A. Chalmers (14ft 6in) and S. Beattie (13ft lOin). The old record was 13ft 4iin. In the track events, R. Edgar reduced by 4-ssec the previous record in the 75 Yards for boys under 10 years, and L. Gee equalled the record for the 75 Yards (under 12 years). At the conclusion of the programme Mr Somerville presented the cups, and after congratulating the winners, thanked the committee, officials, and school teachers for their work. Points were gained as follows:—Tapanui (champion school), 200 J points, less handicap of 40 —159 J points; Kelso, 75J points; Wilden, 47 points; Waikoikoi, 45 points: Conical Hills. 31 i points; Heriot, 25 points: Dunrobin, li points; Glenkenich, 1 point. Individual championships were awarded as follows:—Senior boy. J. Bottlik, Tapanui: senior girl, J. Weatherall, Wilden. The age group winners were; Boys—l 3 years, S. Mercer, Tapanui; 12 years, A. Chalmers, Kelso; 11 years, J. Edgar, Tapanui: 10 years, N. Clemens, Tapanui. Girls—--13 years. D. Stark, Waikoikoi; 12 years, E. Yardley, Heriot: H years, J. Robertson, Waikoikoi: 10 years, P. Hay, Wilden.
