FAT STOCK TRANSPORT

"STAY PUT ORDER" RENEWED

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 9. That .the: fat stock disposal order known to the meat trade as the “stay put order ” would again operate this year was made clear by the Minister of Marketing (Mr J. G. Barclay) when commenting to-day on the recent gazetting of an appropriate order for 1942. The Minister said the necessity to conserve petrol and'tyres was even greater this year than last, and the district committees would therefore be directed to continue their work of organising the. purchase' and transport of stock to the freezing works on the most economical basis. These committees, by their work last year, had fully earned the support of all, and any person or firm in any way hindering their work was definitely retarding the war effort. Mr Barclay added that it was recognised that in the case of pigs strict adherence to the “stay put . order” was not practicable, but any operators not achieving the maximum, possible saving of petrol and tyres would automatically have their licences reviewed.
