CAUCASUS FRONT
TOE NALCHIK SECTOR RUSSIAN ATTACKS PRESSED (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 8. The position of Stalingrad is slightly better in all respects than it was a week ago. Not only have their attacks been repelled, but the Germans have been driven out of a number of factory ruins. A large quantity of material, including damaged tanks and lorries, has been captured from the Germans.
The Russians are pressing the attacks in the Nalchik sector of the Caucasus. The Germans report the appearance of a large number of Russian tanks at Alagirskaya, where the Russians counter-attacked. It is a hard, unfinished battle.
The Russians recaptured another height near the Maikop-Tuapse railway. Winter’s grip is now tightening, but Arctic temperatures are not due for several weeks.
