CARGILL ROAD METHODISTS
WESLEY CHURCH DIAMOND JUBILEE
The Cargill Road Methodists will hold celebrations next week in connection with their diamond jubilee. Wesley Church was opened on October I, 1882, and amalgamated two branches, one of which met at Caversham and the other at Melbourne road, South Dunedin. For some years the church was a branch of Trinity Church, but in 1894 it was constituted a separate circuit, taking over the work at Mosgiel and the Taieri Plain. In 1897 the work on the Peninsula was added, and the Wesley Church circuit then extended from the Heads to Woodside and Momona, on the Taieri Plain. The staff consisted of a minister at Cargill road and a home missionary at Mosgiel and one at Broad Bay. There was also a staff of honorary local preachers. In 1901 a cottage meeting was started in Musselburgh, and the work there developed until the present St. Kilda Church was opened. In 1913 St. Kilda was constituted a separate circuit, and took over the work on the Peninsula, Mosgiel also separated, and became a circuit, taking over the work on • the Pl |ome years ago the present church at St. Clair was purchased and became part of the Cargill road circuit. The Rev. T. Steele is the present minister at St. Clair. Three years ago the Rev. B. M. Tasker was appointed to Cargill road.
