ARMED FORCES BOARD
SERVICE APPEALS HEARD Further appeals for exemption from service or release from the military forces were heard yesterday by the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board. The chairman (Mr D. C. Cameron) presided, his associate members being Messrs C. V. Smith and W. R. Clarke. Extension of leave until September 12 was granted in an appeal by E. W. Pldgeon and Co. for L. H. Beardsley, a 'manager. Transfer to a local camp was recommended in the following*appeals:—Mrs E. Woods, for L. L. Woods; Mrs O. M. Wilkinson, for F. C. Wilkinson; Mrs H. Bartlett, for J. E. Ham; Mrs J. Clark, for J. Clark; Mrs M. E. Duncan, for R. Duncan; Mrs Napper, for C. O. Napper; Mrs A. G. McHoull, for A. G. McHoull. Release from camp until February 28. 1943, was granted in appeals by the Duncdin Engineering and Steel Company, for J. Ryan, a boilermaker's apprentice, and by W. N. Ellison, for Alexander McCabe. a farmer. The following appeals were dismissed:— Director of National Service, for E. Knewstubb, an accountant; J. W. Rollinson, a farmer; Mrs T. E. Bennett, for R. J. Bennett. Six weeks' leave was granted in an appeal by Mrs Newton on behalf of R C. Newton, a storekeeper. Four months' leave was granted in an appeal by tin International Harvester Company, Ltd.. fr? M. Johnston, a stores manager.
