AWARD FOR BRAVERY

AUSTRALIAN BOMBARDIER (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent) SYDNEY, Sept. 6. The first award for brav«ry to an Australian soldier fighting on Australian soil has been made to Bombardier Richard William Rankin, aged 23, of Fremantle, who received the Commander-in-Chief's certificate of commendation- signed by General Sir Thomas Blarney. It was pres-mted to him for devotion to duty when he was in charge of a light anti-aircraft post during the enemy's first raid on Darwin on February 19.
