THE I.R.A. CAMPAIGN

GUN BATTLE AT STRABANE TWO POLICEMEN KILLED BELFAST, Sept. 6. Several men ambushed a police patrol at crossroads in Strabane. They shot dead a policeman and wounded two special constables, one of whom died later.

The battle lasted for 15 minutes, and hundreds of rounds were fired. One of the wounded constables continued to fire as he lay on the road. The gunmen are believed to be headed for the Eire border. A big police search has been proceeding all day, but no arrests have been made. Parish priests in many parish churches have warned young men against participation in the I.R.A. campaign against the police.
