ACTING AIR COMMODORE

GROUP CAPTAIN BUCKLEY The promotion of Group Captain M. W. Buckley, M.8.E.. R.N.Z.A.F.. to the acting rank of air commodore as from August 1 is announced in the current Gazette. Air Commodore Buckley has been acting Chief of the Air Staff while Air Commodore R. V. Goddard is in the United States on official business. Air Commodore Buckley, who was born at Seacliff in 1895, and served as an airman in the last war, has held operational commands in New Zealand since his return from Britain in October. 1941. He left New Zealand in June. 1937. to do two years' exchange with a Royal Air Force officer, and after the outbreak of war was appointed to command No. 75 Squadron, famous New Zealand bombing unit. Later he commanded a station from which this squadron and another Wellington bomber unit operated.
