HOTEL LICENCES

QUARTERLY MEETING OF COMMITTEE The quarterly meeting of the Dunedin Licensing Committee was held yesterday. There wove present:—Messrs J. R. Bartholomew, S.M. (chairman). J. S. Douglas, V. S. Jacobs. F. W. Knight, J. R. Dreaver, and W. R. Brown. Inspector W. E. Packer represented the police. An application for a transfer of the licence of the Empire Hotel from Thomas Cuthbert to Robert Victor Geddes \va* granted, Daniel Fleming O'Connell applied for a renewal of a publican's licence for the Southern Hotel.-—The chairman commented that the matter had already been stood down for three months to enable repairs to be made, but nothing had been doneMr G. T. Baylee, representing the licensee, said that an agreement had been reached between the licensee and the landlord concerning most of the requisitions, but in view of the building position it was a question of how soon the work could be done. —The application was adjourned for three months, the chairman intimating that the committee would expect the work to be done, failing which it would have to be given a very proper excuse. The application of John Thomas Nicol Grant for the renewal of a publican's licence for the Carlton Hotel was adjourned until the quarterly meeting in March.
