RICCARTON NOTES
(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, July 15. C. C. McCarthy brought a new horse back from the North Island. This was the two-year-old by Mr Standfast from Callisto. It is a great family. Callisto being a half-sister to Gallic and Te Hero, while her dam. Prodice, is a half-sister to Ammon Ra. The newcomer was ready to race last Christmas, when an accident made a spell necessary. He has since been gelded, and he will be prepared tor spring engagements. C. G. Humphries has taken Military Maid in hand after a spell. She will be kej.it to road exercise for a few weeks, after which she will be got ready to rade in the spring. W. J. Wadley has received a yearling colt, who will be trained for Mr E. Steele, his breeder. He is by Bulandshar from the Imported mare First Cast, the dam of the speedy two-year-old Grilse. The colt has been for the last few mouths at'the Grange Siud, near Wanganui. A. S. Ellis has a new member of bis team, the three-year-old Gunga Din, by Salmagundi from Coalpit. He has been spelling since last August, after having three races and showing some promise. He has done some road exercise for a few weeks, and he may be ready for a race next month.
Nightglass lias been started on sprinting tasks, and she may show form soon, as she looks well.
