CONDENSED CORRESPONDENCE
" Moulting Matilda" states that if "Terror" had inquired from the local merchants about egg testing he would have found that eggs for local consumption are tested for cracks, bloodspots, staleness, etc. " Puzzled," who writes from Balclutha, cannot understand why the police can, as he says, break the law with impunity by selling beer in Invercargill, a no-licence district, while some members of the public were last week fined to the extent of £6O odd for a similar occurrence. " Southern Cross" insists that the education to be given our men in the armv should be subservient to military efficiency. The great need at present is to do all we can to beat the foe. The intellectual development of our troops could be well assured by instruction in and study of the geography, topography, botany, zoology, astronomv and geology of New Zealanc. from a military point of view. In addition, instruction in first aid and in the hyg'eno of diet, cooking and cleanliness would do much to make our army more efficient.
