BALCLUTHA Personal.—Squadron Leader P. J. Lucas, a son of Mr and Mrs C. F. Lucas, of Tuapeka Mouth, is home on leave from England. He arrived in Balclutha by plane on Tuesday afternoon, and was welcomed by the Mayor (Mr J. R. Copland) and Colonel Grigor. as well as by his parents and friends. Squadron Leader Lucas recently received a bar to his D.F.C., and has had a distinguished career in the Royal Air Force, which he joined in England some time. before the outbreak of war. He had the misfortune to lose his wife in England some time ago, and his little daughter arrived in New Zealand a month ago, and is now at the family home at Tuapeka Mouth. Rugby Football.—The draw for next Saturday is as follows:—Seniors: Toko v. descent, at Kaitangata. Clutha seniors will play a friendly game with Clinton at Balclutha. Juniors: Crescent v. Toko, at Milton; Clutha v. South Otago High School, at Balclutha. Sunday E.P.S. Trials.—At a meeting of the Balclutha Central Committee of the E.P.S. an animated discussion took place on the question of holding trials on Sundays, and it was decided to go ahead with the trial (ixed for Sunday. The BenharStirling Committee asked permission to hold its trial on a day other than Sunday, and the.request was granted.
