SHIP'S OFFICER DECORATED

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 17. The chief officer of the Port Chalmers. Mr Henry George Bacon Pinkey, has been awarded the M.B.E. Advice to this effect has been received by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, from the High Commissioner in London, Mr W. J. Jordan. The citation states: " His ship was frequently attacked by aircraft, and Mr Pinkey was responsible for the organisation of defensive armament. The assaults were driven off." It is understood that Mr Pinkey's wife lives at Masterton.
