VIOLATED BY DOCTORS
AMERICAN ANTI-TRUST LAWS
(Rec. 7 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 15. The Court of Appeals unanimously upheld the conviction of the American Medical Association on a charge of violating the anti-trust laws when it interfered with the operations of the Group Health Association, the members of which, in return for monthly payments, receive necessary medical treatment without further fees. The court said that profound changes in social and economic conditions had forced members of all professional groups to make readjustments. "The fact that these changes may result in depriving professional people of an opportunity formerly open to them does not justify or excuse the use of criminal methods to prevent changes or destroy new institutions," the court stated. "The better-educated laity today question the adequacy of presentdav medicine, and their challenge finds support from a substantial section of the medical profession itself. The people gave the privilege of professional monopoly, and the people may take it away." The American Medical Association announced that a writ of certiorari will be applied for immediately.
