Although the weather was cold, it did not hamper operations, and an interesting and profitable time was spent in training. The following is the draw for the first round of the Beattie Rose Bowl, as well as an LG.U. Medal Round:—Mrs Seddon v. Mrs Wilson, Miss C. Harvey v. Mrs Charles, Miss P. Scorgie v. Mrs Read, Mrs Naylor v. Mrs Alpine. Mrs Wallington v. Mrs Scoular, Mrs Truesdale v. Mrs Scorgie. Mrs Butcher v. Miss J. Harvey, Mrs Ingram v. Miss Butcher, Miss T. Alexander v. Mrs Oaten. The Weather. —Towards the week-end a welcome change took place, when damp and overcast conditions, with intermittent rain, were experienced. This was the first rain for some time, and was welcome, as in many parts of the district the dry spell had ' made ploughing an impossibility. Dull and overcast conditions continued over the week-end, but the weather has again cleared. Although the rainfall for January and February was above the average, very little rain has since been recorded, and conditions are exceptionally drv for this time of the year. Influenza. —An epidemic of colds and a mild form of influenza is at present being experienced throughout the district. The malady seems to be fairly common throughout Central Otago. NASEBY Home Guard Camp.—Wintry conditions prevailed for the week-end camp held by A Company of the Maniototo Battalion of the Home Guard at Naseby. The men were under the command of Captain J. Inder, and field manoeuvres were conducted on both days of the camp, followed by bayonet fighting and bomb-throwing. Soldiers Entertained. —A social was held recently in the Town Hall, when the guests of honour were Privates S. R. Brown and Charles Hewitt. The men were addressed by Mr H. Strode on behalf of the local branch of the R.S.A., and also by the Mayor (Mr J. L. Bremner), who presented them with a Rolls razor each and wished them a safe return. Private C. J. Moore was also the guest at a similar function, and was presented with a Rolls razor. Loyal Naseby Lodge.—The monthly meeting was well attended. An official visit was paid by the provincial grand master (Bro. R. J. Hanrahan) and six members of the Maniototo Lodge, and after the business of the meeting had been disposed of they were entertained at a euchre tournament. *
