Army is calling for 1000 women to be recruited into the Australian Corps of Signals, an actual operation unit. This is the first time women have been enlisted in a fighting service, and the largest single recruiting effort for women yet made. After training, the recruits will be placed on the strength of the Corps of Signals to relieve 1000 men for work in forward areas. Although women have been doing similar work in the navy and the R.A.A.F.. this is the first appeal for women recruits in a fighting service in the army. It brings Australia into line with the armies of Britain, Russia, and other United Nations*
