LOSSES ON ATLANTIC TRIPS (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, May 9. The Minister of the Navy, Mr A. L. Macdonald, told the House of Commons that ships lost by enemy action leaving Canada on trans-Atlantic trips totalled under 1 per cent, since the start of the war, but declared that the sinkings up and down the Atlantic coast were the- heaviest.
He added that vessels travelling without escort were four times more vulnerable than those protected by convoys.
