HOCKEY

OPENING OF SEASON The hockey seasdn was opened in Dunedin on Saturday, when both the Otago Hockey Association's and the Otago Women's Hockey Association's competitions were commenced. The former association played its matches at Tonga Park where, considering the fact that teams usually require one or two matches to achieve form, good games were witnessed. Two women's A Grade games, both of which were fast and interesting, were played at the Oval. Kings met Momona at the Oval, and, displaying better combination, secured a win. University and Dunedin drew after a match which was well contested, if a little ragged at times. The two Training College teams will meet later, and Otago had the bye. Only two men's games also were played, University A beating High School Old Boys by a considerable margin, while University B beat Technical Old Boys. An Army team, which was to have played an Air Force side, dropped out owing to a lack of hockey equipment, and Air Force played an unofficial game with University C. Results:— WOMEN'S GAMES Kings 4, Momona 2. University 1, Dunedin 1. MEN'S GAMES University A 12, H.S. Old Boys 5. University B 2, Technical Old Boys 1.
