PRICES FOR DAIRY PRODUCE
COST ALLOWANCE INADEQUATE
"The increased cost allowance granted to dairy farmers of id per lb on butter and 0.31 d per lb on cheese does not cover the increased costs of production which dairy farmers have had to meet," said Mr J. Dunlop, South Island representative on the New Zealand Dairy Board, at a meeting held in Invercargill to consider the problem of labour for the cheese factories in Southland next season. "There is a war on, however, and we are all called on to make sacrifices," he said. "We cannot be too hard on the Government. Other sections may be trying to get the last penny possible out of the Government, but that is not the Mr Dunlop paid a tribute to the Minister of Agriculture, Mr J. G. Barclay. In his opinion, Mr Barclay was trying to do his best in a difficult situation, and he was more sympathetic towards the dairy farmers than some former Ministers of Agriculture had been. He always put his cards on the table and played them.
