OBITUARY

MR H. F. DREWE (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, May 8. The death occurred yesterday afternoon after a prolonged illness of Mr Herbert F. Drewe, a prominent business man with a long service on many public bodies, particularly the Chamber of Commerce, the Harbour Board, and the Southland Progress League. He was born in Liverpool 71 years ago, and came to New Zealand in 1888. Fdf many years he was employed by Messrs Briscoe and Co. at Dunedin as a travelling representative over a wide territory. He became manager of the firm’s Invercargill branch in 1901, continuing in that position until 1923. He then became manager of the Port Craig Timber Company, retiring in 1932 to commence business on his own account. Mr Drewe" is survived by a widow and four daughters. MR RALPH STEWART (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 8. The death is announced of Mr Ralph Stewart owner of Beau Vite. An Australian by birth, he had been in the Dominion 36 years, and was in the hotelkeeping business, formerly at Takaka and Greytown and afterwards at Wellington. As a young man he was a prominent athlete as a runner and cyclist. Some little time ago he underwent an operation, but was recently compelled to re-enter hospital.
