The Watkins memorial stained-glass window, above the atlar in Holy Trinity Church, Greymouth, has been boarded up on both sides and packed with shavings as a precaution against damage in an emergency. The window, which was purchased by public subscriptions as a memorial to the Rev. G. T. M. Watkins. is valued at more than £IOOO, and could not be replaced if damaged. The services of an interpreter were required in the Supreme Court, Wanganui, recently, when a Hindu was charged that with intent to extort or gain money he accused another Hindu of a crime. A plea of not guilty was entered by the accused in his own language, and as the evidence was given it was translated into Hindustani for his benefit. The unusual phenomenon of a waterspout was witnessed on Lake Rotorua about 7 o'clock last Thursday evening. The waterspout, which, several witnesses state, rose to a height of several hundred feet, was between the Hamurana shore and Ohau Channel, and as far as can be ascertained it continued for about half an hour.
