UNDESIRABLE PERSON
AN AMERICAN ENGINEER EXCLUDED FROM NAVY WORK WASHINGTON. (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) Feb. 23. The Navy Department has announced the exclusion of George Deatherage from navy work because the Secretary of the Navy, Colonel Frank Knox, found Deatherage to be an undesirable person within the meaning of the naval contract. It noted that there has been considerable critical discussion of Deatherage's employment as the chief engineer to private contractors on a 30,000,000-dollar project at the Norfolk Naval Base because Deatherage was formerly the leader of the organisation known as the Knights of the White Camelia. an allegedly Fascist and anti-Semitic organisation.
