THEFT AND FORGERY
COMPANY MANAGER PLEADS GUILTY CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED SUICIDE Answering charges of attempted suicide, of theft involving £96 17s 6d, and forgery in respect of two sums of £lO, Albert Garnet Anderson, manager and secretary of the Otago Finance and Agency Company, Ltd., pleaded guilty to all counts in the City Police Court yesterday morning. The accused, who is a married man, aged 49 years, was committed by Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., to the Supreme Court for sentence. Detective Sergeant T. Y. Hall conducted the, case* for the police. Detective Sergeant J. Gibson stated that about 4.15 p.m. on January 26, as a result of a telephone message, he and two constables went to the Clear-in Maori Hill, overlooking the Woodhaugh Gardens. There they found a motor car with its engine idling and a piece of threequarterinch rubber hosing connected to the exhaust outlet and leading into the car, which was full, of fumes. The accused was sitting in the front seat in an unconscious condition. After rendering first aid witness took him to the Public Hospital. On his discharge from hospital, the accused was arrested on a charge of attempted suicide. In an •,interview with the accused, on February 3, witness continued, Anderson admitted misappropriations from the Otago Finance and Agency Company, Ltd., totalling £ll6 17s 6d, which Included the two amounts of £lO each in respect of the forgery charges. The accused also admitted having forged the signatures on the advance notes. , -
