"Made"in Japan by the Japanese for the Japanese " would/; be a good slogan to accompany;; the barbed wire which is forming an important part in the defence of New Zealand shores. For this wire has clearly marked on it the ironical words, "Made in Japan." If the "Yellow Men," as they are called in polite circles in the East, ever set foot on these shores they will find it necessary to negotiate barbed wire that was made in their own 'factories/ When New Zealand shipped scrap metal to the war-mongering sons of Nippon there were many farsighted people who could imagine it being returned by the purchasers in the form of shells, bombs, and bullets. In fact,, a message from Sydney published on Thursday quoted a woman refugee from Rab'aul, who described the use of all kinds of scrap metal by the , Japanese in their bombing raids on the island.' BUt by one of those Strange ironies of war, Japanese invaders of these.shores will And that their countrymen have returned at least some of the scrap metal to assist our defence. There is certainly no fault to be found with the quality of the wire, and it is being put to the best possible use.
