FIRST NIGHT ON DUTY
' ———-•■ — ■ —: FIRE WATCHER GIVES ALARM (PA) WELLINGTON, Feb. 7. A fire-watcher who was spending his first night on duty was responsible for giving the alarm when an outbreak occurred in the premises of Messrs Leopold and. Co. (Alco, Ltd.), wholesale leather goods manufacturer and importers, who occupy the top floor of a five-storey building in Lamb ton quay. The fire occurred shortly before midnight. Five engines and a salvage van attended the outbreak and an c-xtension ladder was used to take a hose to the top of the building. The adjoining premises of Marie Dean (a photographic studio), Garland's restaurant, and Kodak. Ltd.. received slight damage through water. Messrs Leopold's premises were damaged, though not seriously.
