A STRIKING EXHIBITION DOMINION WORK REPRESENTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. A distinguished gathering filled the long gallery at the National Art Gallery this af'ternon when the GovernorGeneral, Sir Cyril Newall, opened an exhibition of striking paintings by British war artists which has be#n forwarded to this country by the British Ministry of Information. The collection includes not only examples of the work of the best British artists of the present day, but also contains a collection of pictures by the New Zealand war artists, Peter Mclntyre, and another set by Austin Deans, who is now a prisoner in Germany. Among those present were the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand, Sir Harry Batterbee, and the Chief of the General Staff, Majorgeneral E. Puttick. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, mentioned that-the collection could remain in New Zealand for only a month or so, and could not be shown in every part of New Zealand. The Department of Internal Affairs, however, was arranging for a selection of pictures brought out from England by his Excellency, together with those of the New Zealand artists, to be shown in the more remote parts of the country. He thanked his Excellency for his cooperation, mentioning hpw willingly he had withheld his own pictures from exhibition till the others arrived from Great Britain.

The proceeds of the exhibition are to go to the National Patriotic Fund Board, together with any profits made from the sale of catalogues.
