ALEXANDRA Borough: Council.—The monthly meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held on Monday night, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr A. McKellar) and Crs A: B. Armour. G. H. Fox, E. Russell, R. S. Kinnaird, T. E. Sunderland. J. R. McKissock, G. R. Campbell, and A. L. Hern.— The Local Government Loans Board wrote stating that it had asked for a report from the Public Works Department on the suitability of the used mining pipes at Waitahuna. It was decided to purchase the pipes provided the report was satisfactory. —Messrs J. Hardie and Co., Ltd., and E. Fletcher Roberts, consulting engineers, wrote supplying details of asbestos cement pipes. Considerable discussion took place on the question of the completion of the water reticulation scheme, and the Water Committee was asked to supply a report on the suitability of asbestos cement pipes and sections of the reticulation that were in the greatest need of attention. It was also asked to take tests of the new pressure now that relining had been completed The Public Works Department advised that £35 worth of damage had been done to the State and main highways by the contractors for the relining of the pipes, and the town clerk was instructed to discuss the matter with the local engineer. —The Department of Internal Affairs wrote stating that buckles were unprocurable for dog collars, and it had been decided to extend the use of the present collars to March 1, 1942. The registration fees for dogs were fixed at the same rates as last year.—Mr D. H. Thomson wrote complaining of a nuisance caused by the rubbish tip and sewer outlet. It was stated that these matters were already receiving attention.—The Swimming Club wrote requesting assistance from the council on various matters, and it was agreed to help in any way possible. Airman Honoured. —On Tuesday afternoon Sergeant Pilot A. Rogers was entertained by the public at a social function. The Mayor, Mr A. McKellar, extended best wishes to the guest, and on behalf of the residents asked him to accept a wallet and enclosure. Sergeant Pilot Roger 3 made a suitable reply. QUEENSTOWN

Fire Brigades' Competition.—The final round of the second competition of the Watts Cup, between the Arrowtown, Cromwell and Queenstown Fire Brigades, was held at Arrowtown on Saturday last. The Queenstown brigade was successful in all the competitions, and the Arrow team won the trophies for the three-men (disabled) event. The aggregate points for the competition were: Queenstown 304, Cromwell 29, Arrowtown 23|. Superintendent N. Campbell presented the cup to the winning team, and congratulated the men on their performance. Superintendent Thompson, of Arrow, also extended his congratulations. The Weather.—With the exception of a welcome shower on Tuesday, the weather has been settled, and growth has been rapid. Back to Normal.—There was a big exodus of holiday-makers at the weekend and on Monday. The Queenstown-Kingston-Lumsden bus service, recommenced on Monday, and is generally welcomed by local people. Passengers from Invercargill have complained of the slow railway service between Invercargill and Lumsden. CLYDE Clyde School.-r-The Clyde School was reopened on Tuesday. Miss J. McCrae, of Dunedin, is relieving assistant mistress in place of Miss E. Willetts, who has been transferred to the South School, Oamaru. Town Trust.—The annual meeting of the Clyde Town Trust was held on Saturday night. The balance sheet disclosed a satisfactory year's work, with a credit balance of £35. The new committee was elected as follows: —Mrs Annan, Messrs H. E. Stevens. W. Thomson, W. C. Wilson, J. E. Clements,. W. K. Wright-and'G. L. Kitto. • Grateful- Soldiers.—The following soldiers' have sent letters of thanks to the local Women's Guild for parcels received: —Lieutenant W. J. McArthur, Gunners C. J. Davidson and Bruce Laing, and Private A. Gye.
