MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the executive of the : Returned Services' Association wtshei a yesterday, and was attended by Messrs W. Earnshaw (in the chair), W. T. Forrester, W. K. Cameron, J. B. Stewart. .W. H. Thomson, A. Duncan, and A. McHutcnon. ' Wet Canteens' ... The chairman, reported that a telegram had been sent to headquarters advocattag the establishing of wet canteens for the National Military Reserve. Jt WiW-. sidered that the position was totally different from that of wet canteens for territorial units, as all the men were of mature, ♦vesrs ';*■-'•' 'v ■ *'""'' The general secretary, Wellington, wrote advising that, representations,-.had J»*n V made to the Prime - Minister advocating,-;:. that wet 'canteens should bejestaeaisnea at the headquarters of each battalion of the National Military Reserve wherever posted throughout the Dominion. . Approval was expressed of the action taken. ■-.-.-• Membership, Eleven new members—four men who served in the last war and seven, who have returnee from the present conflict—were elected, and four transfers to the association were approved. • ■ Dominion headquarters advised tntt the membership of the association on December 31 last was 36,145. compared with 34,272 on December 31, 1940. There were 12,338 members in the South Island and 23,807 In the North Island. The membership roll included the'names of 1122 men.returned from the present war. ' - - ■•■-:: ""' ,u - Advice was also received that the Poppy Day returns last year totalled *?*' 47B 6s 7d; Dunedin heading the list with; a total of £3222 7s sd, followed by Auckland £2742 Is Bd, Christchurch £2732 lis lOd. and Wellington £2206 6s. Patriotic Activities A member mentioned that criticisi* had,, been expressed by tin anonymous Writer in the press that no members of the association's executive were on the Provincial Patriotic Council. He pointed out that the council was automatically formec from the Centennial Committee.
