The Women's Land Corps has been definitely established in North Taranaki, and its first member was placed on a dairy farm in the Tikorangi district last week! The young,woman who inaugurated the movement in North Taranaki has always been keen to go on -the land, and she has given up a responsible position in a New Plymouth drapery emporium to accept the opportunity offered;^.;,. Two sharks, estimated to be between 9ft "and 10ft long, cruised for some time near the seawall at Westhaven, Auckland, during the Ponsonby Cruising Club's races last week.. Many people who had assembled to watch the races saw the sharks, and several threw stones at one which appeared to be rubbing itself against the seawall. The custodian of Westhaven succeeded in hooking one of the sharks, but the line broke and the fish escaped. Yachtsmen. did not dally in the vicinity, nor did crew members adopt, the usual practice of wading out to their.boats. Suggesting that the season's crop of honey was likely to be a poor, one, a reservist who was before the Hamil-. ton District Man-power Committee, recently' said he usually; .* harvested about 15 tons of honey for the season, but owing to the .unfavourable weather, this' spring his'output might .be only five tons. ■■',■■.','.■•■■■. .
