APPEALS HEARD AT BALCLUTHA The Armed Forces Appeal Board— Messrs J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., J. Price and H. Hodgson—continued its sitting at Balclutha on Thursday. Lieutenant A. N. Haggitt appeared for the Crown. The names of the persons making the appeals are shown in brackets. The following adjourned cases were reviewed; John Rutherford Darling (Darling and Hudson), farm worker, of Clinton —Withdrawn May 31, 1942. David Arthur Gent (Elijah Gent and the Primary Production Council), farm worker, of Waiwera—'Withdrawn. Norman Hargood Gent (the Director of National Service), shearer, of Waiwera —Withdrawn, February 28, 1942. James Stewart Stephen, an agricultural contractor, of Clinton —Dismissed, April 30, 1942. William Eoin Brown (William Brown), a carpenter, of Clinton —Dismissed, March 31, 1942. The following appeals were adjourned sine die:—John Bagrie Urwln Roy (Margaret I. Roy and the Primary Production Council), farm manager, of Clinton, to continue serving in the Home Guard at Clinton. Francis Joseph Gregan (Mrs L. Gregan and the Primary Production Council), farmer and contractor, of Waiwera South, to continue serving in the Home Guard at Waiwera. Robert Joseph Orr, a farmer, of Clinton, to serve in the Home Guard at Clinton. Donald George Murray, a farmer, of Waitahuna West. lan James Rendall (Timothy J. Mahoney), dairy farm manager, of Kopaki, to continue serving in the Home Guard at Kopaki. Charles Willocks (Ralph Douglas Willocks), a farm hand, of Balclutha, transferred to the territorials for service May-July. The following appeals for time were heard:—Ernest Dunstan Holden (Primary Production Council), shearer, of Waiwera South, allowed to March 31, 1942; George and Francis James Carruthers (Alexander Carruthers and the Primary Production Council), farm workers, of Taumata. allowed to May 31, 1942; Charles Ewan Mason (South Otago Freezing Company, Ltd.), slaughter house assistant, allowed to May 31. 1942; Leonard William Daumann ’(the Director of National Service), a tractor driver, employed by R. R. Thomson, of Balclutha, allowed to March 31. 1942; Frank James Crutchley (James Hawkins Crutchley), farm worker, of Balclutha, dismissed as at March 31, 1942.
