MEDICAL SERVICE
CLAIMS FOR REFUNDS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 29. An Order-in-Council gazetted tonight provides for the acceptance by a medical officer of health of the signature of an approved person instead of the doctor himself for the purpose of obtaining a refund under the General Medical Services scheme. The Minister of Health, Mr A. H. Nordmeyer, explained that when the scheme came into force it was regarded as essential in order to avoid the possibility of bogus claims, that a doctor should in every case personally signify that service had been rendered. This safeguard should be. continued except where circumstances made _it irngrac; Licable, for example, where a doctor-waai rendering services and might be. called into camp and unable personally to vouch for the accuracy of a claim. It was to meet such cases that the amendment had been gazetted. The responsible person, the Minister said, should preferably be a public accountant, who,. could, certify from « doctor's record that ■ service had been rendered. ' ----- ~ - •• ■•
