MUSEUM ARTS AND CRAFTS
, CLUB FOR CHILDREN A Museum Arts and Crafts Club for children has been formed in Dunedin. The object of the club is to interest children in the Museum, and discover talent which may lead to professional careers. It will be open J to any child between the ages of seven and fourteen years. There will be no subscription, but each child will supply his or her own materials. The club will meet every Friday from 3.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Museum Galleries. For the present, membership will be limited to 25. Each child must show some ability and submit work before admission.
Children may choose their own medium of expression, but work must be confined to Museum material and exhibits, or methods used in Museum display. The work may consist of drawing (in pencil or crayon), painting, modelling, pottery, model making, weaving, basketry, posters, and lettering. No instruction will be given, but advice may be obtained on any point. There will be an " improvement ladder," and points will be given to each child for attendance, progress, perseverance, originality and general conduct. Each month any outstanding work by members will be' shown in the gallery-
The club will be under the supervision of Miss L. A. Daff, the Museum display artist, who is a well-known painter of New Zealand birds and flowers, and is draughtsman for Museum publications; Miss J. W. Wilson, her assistant; and Mr G. D. Anderson, the Museum education •officer. Later it is hoped that the children will run the club .themselves, electing their own president and officers. Children are invited to send particulars, with stamped, addressed envelope, to Miss L. A. DafT, Otago Museum, King street, Dunedin.
