LAWRENCE

Emergency Precautions. A well-at-tended meeting of members of the Lawrence Borough Emergency Precautions Scheme was held on Tuesday evening. The Mayor (Mr W. T. Suters). who occupied the chair, said that one of the principal reasons for convening the meeting was to discuss the lighting regulations in connection with private and business premises. Constable T. G. Beadle suggested that Mr W. Duthie (borough lighting controller) and himself should make a preliminary inspection of the borough in connection with the enforcement of lighting restrictions, and this .was agreed to. To enable a branch of the Women's War Service Auxiliary to be formed in Lawrence boroughs it was decided to hold a meeting on Thursday, February 5, when all women would be invited to enrol. Constable Beadle reported that at a meeting of the law and order section of the local E.P.S. held recently it was suggested that Lawrence should organise an E.P.S. " tryout " at an early date. It was suggested bv a member that an efficient emergency siren could be provided by the installation of a compressed air or steam whistle on the roof of Tuapeka Motors. It was decided to take steps to procure a steam or compressed air whistle as an emergency alarm.
