HUMOUR FOR THE TROOPS

TRANSPORT EMPLOYEESPUBLICATION . It was a happy thought that inspired the publication of the Dunedin City Transport Overseas Bulletin, a magazine which is now being' prepared at intervals with the object .of providing news of events in the service at home for former employees who are now with the armed forces. It is certain that the publication will have a wider circulation in the forces than that for which it was intended, for former passengers, as well as employees, are likely to appreciate the humour of " the great, pulsating, vibrating, gripping, grinding, shaking, jolting, groan-pro-voking drama of the great cable tram trail 'Roslyn Express,'" for which, an announcement adds, "seats are being rushed at all hours." An employee's verses, inspired by the fact that the Government housing scheme at Wakari has been a " howling success," and that 45 perambulators were recently carried in half an hour on the Kaik'orai trams, are likely to have an equally wide appeal. A closer acquaintance with transport employees may be required for a full appreciation of the transport comedy, " Blueskin Bay." but the gentle chaff which it presents in prose and verse has so much underlying humour that it is certain to be received with delight. Endearing references to " Big Lizzie " are made in other verses, and the record of home events is so complete that even the death of "Cheeky," the transport cat, mourned by "an exceptionally large family." is not overlooked. The inevitable humorous experiences of men in constant touch with such large numbers of the public prov.ide some of the happiest reading in the magazine, which contains more than 150 "cheerio" messages to, tramwaymen on active service. It is certain that the publication will be warmly welcomed among them.
