ARMY AWARDS
THREE NEW ZEALANDERS TWO BRIGADIERS IN LIST BRAVERY RECOGNISED (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service) CAIRO, Jan. 26. The commanders of two New Zealand infantry brigades in the Libyan campaign have been awarded decorations by the Commander-in-Chief of the forces in the Middle East, General Sir Claude Auchinleck. A third New Zealand award was announced to-day, the M.M. going to a private for special duty. The awards are: — Bar to D.S.O.—Brigadier H. E. Barrowclough, D. 5.0., M.C. D.S.O.—Brigadier L. M. Inglis, M.C. M.M. —Private Charles Dornbush.
The official citation concerning Brigadier Barrowclough's decoration reads: " The award is made for most conspicuous bravery and brilliant leadership as a brigade commander during the advance of the New Zealand Division which led to the capture of Sidi Rezegh on November 27. This officer led and inspired his men during what must have been one of the most difficult battles of the campaign. Whereever the fighting was heaviest h? was found leading and inspiring his troops." Brigadier Inglis's citation reads: " During the operations which led to the establishment of a corridor into Tobruk on November 28, this commander organised and directed five successful attacks on enemy positions, culminating in the capture of Bolhamid
Spur and the linking of the Tobruk garrison. This officer showed great resource and skill in commanding the brigade. He was an excellent example to all."
Because of the secrecy of the work he was doing when he won the decoration the citation accompanying the award to Private Dornbush is not available for publication.
