GREAT WAR FUNDS COMMITTEE

The monthly meeting of the Great War Funds Committee, Red Cross and St. John, was attended by Mr O. L. Ferens (chairman), Miss Rattray, Mrs Sydney Neill, Miss Graham. Mrs Stanley Batchelor, Mrs G. R. Ritchie, and Messrs C. V. Smith and T. Somerville. Mr Ferens extended a welcome to Mr Somerville. the representative of the St. John Association. Letters were received from soldier patients, gratefully acknowledging special remembrances during the Christmas season. Miss Graham and Mesdames Ritchie, Batchelor and Neill, who reported for Hie hospital visitors, stated that the condition of the soldier patients was satisfactory. The men were grateful for continued attention to their needs. There are 65 men at Dunedin Hospital, eight at Wakari and six at Talboys. In regard to the Montecillo Home, Mr Smith reported that following recommendations from the Fire Board, he had arranged for necessary appliances to be sent to the home for use in fire emergency, and his action was confirmed. Mr Ferens reported that the Home Committee had been giving special attention to several matters concerning the home, and had given instructions for enlarging the facilities of the institution. Its action was confirmed.
