SCHOOL TEACHERS IN FORCES WOMEN REPLACING MEN (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Jan. 27. The schools of the Dominion have already suffered severely by the calling up’ of men for military service, said the Minister of Education, Mr H. G. R. Mason, to-day. and he expected that the last ballot would claim a good many mors. The schools, like other institutions, would have to do the best they could in the circumstances, he added. , ~ When asked if there had been a great response from married women who had previously been teachers to fill vacancies caused by the enlistment of men, Mr Mason said he did not know what the figures were, but the education boards were securing as many suitable teachers as they could. Many married teachers had helped during the last war, and he believed that many would do so again.
