PROBLEM FOR SCHOOLS

BUILDINGS WANTED FOR ARMY SUGGESTED ARRANGEMENTS The Education Department has requested the Education Board to make suitable arrangements for the accommodation of the children of schools which will continue to be used for military purposes during February or perhaps longer. The Dunedin schools affected are St. Clair, Musselburgh and Tainui. „ , , The suggestion is that these schools should link up with neighbouring institutions for the purpose of forming part-time schools. For instance, if St. Clair linked up with Caversham, the Caversham children might work from 9 till 12. and the St. Clair children from 12.30 to 3.30. This woulo give a part day of three hours for each school. In the free periods the teachers could arrange suitable outdoor work such as has been done in previous years when the weather in February has been too hot for indoor work. The headmasters of the schools concerned will confer with the school inspectors, and further particulars will be announced before the opening of the schools next Tuesday. REOPENING AS USUAL ** To remove any misunderstanding, I wish to make it’ clear to the parents that primary, secondary, and technical schools will be reopened at the usual time in February.” said the Minister of Education. Mr H. G. H. Mason, tonight. “ Only where special and exceptional circumstances are in operation will the usual date of reopening be departed from. In such cases the education board or board of governors will give notification in the press Ox the date decided upon for the deferred reopening.”
