WELCOME IN LONDON
RUSSIAN TRADE UNIONISTS SCENES OF ENTHUSIASM RUGBY, San. 25. . A large crowd gave an enthusiastic welcome to the members, of the Russian trade union delegation when they made their first public appearance at a demonstration in London. A resolution pledging the stepping up and keeping up of war production in order to hasten the day of victory for the forces of liberty was passed amid scenes of noisy enthusiasm. Sir Walter Citrine, general secretary of the General Council of the Trade Union Congress, said that, although the Russian victories had given hope and inspiration to the whole world, and had shattered for ever the myth of German invincibility, the Russians were wisely looking forward to a period of bitter trial. There would be a resumption of the German offensive some time in the spring. The extension of the war meant that a gigantic effort must be made, and it was the British people who must make
The leader of the Russian delegation, a well-known Soviet politician, said Russia was one single armed camp, ready not only to fight, but to win. The Russian people were unconquerable, and would take full retribution. They and the army lived with one aim, and that was to smash and annihilate the enemy.
