THE NEW BATTLESHIP
DUKE OF YORK IN COMMISSION TOOK MR CHURCHILL TO AMERICA LONDON. Jan. 26. When Mr Churchill recently visited the United States he went on the Duke of York. Britain's newest battleship. The release of this information in London was the first indication that the Duke of York was in commission. This battleship is a sister ship to the King George V and the Prince of Wales. She was launched in September, 19.19, The Duke of York has a displacement of 35,000 tons. She was laid down in May. 1937. and launched in September. 1939.
The American Ambassador to Britain. Mr John Winant, and Mr W. A. Hardman, liaison officer to the Defence Commission, accompanied Mr Winston Churchill in the Duke of York. The British Minister for Supply, Lord Beaverbrook. went by air.
