RICCARTON NOTES
MOTUKARARA PLANS (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 26. Mr W. R. Main, the racecourse manager, has been out to Motukarara lately to inspect the course, which is to be used on Saturday of next week for the summer meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club. He took some of his staff there to-day to give the race track some necessary attention. J. C. Tomkinson, with Atreus, D. Cotton with Fur Coat and C. Davey with Phenomenal, arrived home yesterday from Trentham. Most of the Riccarton trainers and their horses are expected back to-morrow, when a number of yearlings will also arrive. E. J. Ellis, with Foxette, Symbol and Craiglea, and J. Shaw, with Cataract, arrived back from Trentham yesterday and have gone to their homes in South Canterbury. The Otago owner-trainer, D. P. Wilson, has Hearth and True Mate engaged at the Ashhurst meeting on Saturday and his intention, at the end of last week, was to fulfil engagements there before coming south to race the pair at Motukarara on Saturday of next week. The five-year-old Articulate, by Rabbi from Babel, the dam of Wild Talk, had to be spelled after suffering some injuries in an accident. He has made a good recovery and A. McMullan has him in work again, in preparation for an engagement at Motukarara next week.
Mr A. Louisson has sold the three-year-old Troja, by Nightmarch from the Iliad mare Gay Helen, to Mr J. W. Smith, whose colours have not been seen since he raced Settlement about a year ago. Troja, who has been nominated for Motukarara, is being worked by his owner. He has been trouble with unsoundness, but he should pay his way if he trains on, as he has a good turn of speed.
